Audrey Friedman Grunfeld was a true woman of independence, and how fitting that she chose to leave us on Independence Day. She was 82 and resided in Franklin, TN.
A native of Syracuse, Aud, as her friends and family called her, attended Nottingham High School and graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Education. From there, she was a teacher in Syracuse and Cincinnatus but as soon as her pregnancy began to show, she stopped teaching because it was seen as politically incorrect. She then took a career detour to raise 3 kids with her then husband, Walter W. Grunfeld. Together they ran the Independent Newspapers in Marathon, NY. As a proficient penny pincher, Audrey kept her eye on the business side as well as publishing weekly newspapers.
Audrey was also a talented athlete. She loved to play golf, tennis, and ski the slopes. She also loved pool time and working daily crossword puzzles. Her favorite genre was crime and mystery, so it was fitting that she would fill her free time with Law and Order marathons along with eerie novels. Audrey adored her cat Winslow, wasn't a fan of watermelon, and never cared which restaurant was chosen but always favored Chinese.

Predeceased by her parents William "Bill" & Edyth Hoffman Friedman, Audrey is survived by her sister Tovia "Toby" (Ed) Trabin; her children Adrienne Chase, David, and Brent (Andrea); her grandchildren Isaac, Sam, and Magill ; nieces Faith Trabin (Jeff) Osheroff, Dale Trabin (Marty) Waschitz and Andy Trabin; nephews Martin and Jonathon Braun; and cousins Ellie (Cyril) Freeman, Beth (Scott) Freeman-Warren and Jamie Freeman-Saks.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Audrey Grunfeld to Thistle Farms, 5122 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209 www.thistlefarms.org #loveheals.
Sisskind Funeral Service was entrusted with arrangements.
