Peter M. Matlow, 87, passed away on Saturday, the Fourth of July in Delray Beach, FL surrounded by his family. In 1939, he was born in Syracuse to Hyman and Rose Blumberg Matlow. He graduated from Nottingham High School and the Manlius Military Academy. Peter began his college studies at Michigan State, which he loved, and graduated from Syracuse University’s School of Business. He was a huge fan of Syracuse University athletics.

After college, Peter joined the family’s scrap metal recycling company based in Solvay with his father and brother. From 1980 to 2009, he was its sole owner and President. He was a lifelong member of Temple Adath Yeshurun and for many years a member of the former Lafayette Country Club and Solvay-Geddes Rotary Club. Peter was a Syracuse resident until retiring to Florida in 2012.

Peter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family includes his wife Nancy of 54 years; their children Daniel (Johanna) Matlow, Hilary (Scott) Jones, and Robyn (Jason) Shiroff; grandchildren Tyler, and Dax Jones; Maren, and Evan Shiroff; nieces Susan and Jennifer Matlow; and sister-in-law Marcy Matlow Berenson.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Hyman and Rose; Nancy’s parents Dr. Jerome and Eileen Wayne; his brother Richard, and his sister-in-law Candace Wayne.

The family is grateful to Dr. Willliam Berkery of Syracuse, and his Florida doctors, Dr. Leor Skocyzlas, Dr. Eric Heller, Dr. Jared Jaffe, Dr. Eric Weiss, as well as countless nurses and hospital aides, without whom, his long life would not have been possible.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 10th from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Sisskind Funeral Chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY. A private burial in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery will follow the visitation. Contributions to perpetuate his memory may be made to Temple Adath Yeshurun, Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of one’s choosing.

Lynda and I were so very sorry to hear of Peter's passing. We so much enjoyed our visits with Nancy and Peter, and all our dinners at Eagle Grill. May his memory be a blessing to his family and us all Love, Lynda and Jeff
