Allen Tecler, 78, died Wednesday evening at Menorah Park. He was a resident of Mohawk, NY where he and his wife raised their family until moving to Utica in 2015.
Allen was a respected social studies teacher at Herkimer High School for more than 30 years; a member of Temple Beth Joseph of Herkimer; Temple Emanuel of Utica; and a dedicated volunteer at the Rescue Mission of Utica.
His family includes his wife Susanne of more than 45 years; their children Ben (Jessica), and Cynthia; grandchildren Noah, Maximus, Gryffin, and Vivienne; and his sister Elaine Tecler.
Funeral services will be at Temple Beth Joseph in Herkimer on Sunday, January 22 at noon. Friends may visit with the family from 11AM to noon on Sunday at the Temple.
Burial will be in the Temple’s section of Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer.www.sisskindfuneralservice.com

Mr. Tecler was an amazing teacher. He showed a lot of compassion in his work and taking time to help students. After graduating high school, I'd see him and he always asked how I was and would always ask about my family. I am very sorry for your loss & he will be greatly missed. Class of '95'

He was a great teacher. When I was a senior I was asked to pick a teacher to speak for me being class president and I picked him. He always asked about me when he ran into my parents. He was a caring man who made social studies a lot of fun and we learned so much
