Irving Bernard Rosenthal passed quietly on January 21st at the age of 90.
Born in Syracuse, he was the son of Isadore and Anna (Cott) Rosenthal and is survived by his two daughters, I. Holly Rosenthal and Debbie Gaffney (Brian), and three grandchildren, Anna Tepper, and Aiden and Grace Gaffney. He found great pleasure and intellectual compatibility - and traveled extensively - with his long-time love, Elly Andrews, and remained a generous friend to his former wife, Barbara Joanne Bates. His beloved brother Seymour (Ethel) is now the last of the five Rosenthal siblings, which also included Pauline (Alan Share), Marvin (Diane) and Harvey. His home was the hub of family gatherings, which often included his 10 nieces and nephews.
Irving volunteered at 17 to serve his Country during WWII, and saw combat at the Battle of the Bulge. He later became a Syracuse University Engineering alum and used his technical genius and love for every new gadget as president and owner of Rosenthal-Chadwick, Inc., providing innovative solutions to complex building system challenges. He was a lifelong private pilot, with an independent, adventurous spirit, who flew and skied until nearly 80. Oh so stubborn! Irving was well known for his dry, critical wit and humor, delivered with an innocent grin. He was dedicated to an awareness of current events and never missed a vote, including 2016, when he proudly voted for "My Girl," always choosing principals over his pocketbook.
The family expresses its gratitude to the exceptional, caring, capable professionals and volunteers of the Syracuse VA Community Living Center (CLC), who cared for him with respect, warmth and dignity at the end of his life.
Funeral Services will be at 3PM Thursday, January 26 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel,3175 E. Genesee Street. There will be no calling hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery.
We ask that you celebrate his life by doing something others think you can't or shouldn't do. A donation may be made to the Syracuse VA CLC Recreation Department to encourage programs that enhance life through music. www.sisskindfuneralservice.com
