Rita Windland

Rita Windland, 98, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family early Thursday morning at
Francis House. Born March 16, 1919 to Joseph and Miriam Kylov Gabronovich she survived Dachau
Concentration Camp and the Holocaust. Her strong spirit and will to live a full and productive life
have and always will continue to be an inspiration to her family.
She and her husband arrived in NYC in 1949 and settled in Brooklyn where they enjoyed a good life.
Rita moved to Syracuse in 1993 to be closer to her family.
Rita’s family includes her daughter Freeda and son-in-law Michael Franz, and her grandchildren
Natalie Windland (Andrew Rumbach), and Daniel Franz.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 10 at Beth Moses Cemetery on
Long Island. Shiva will be observed at the family’s home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9, and Monday through Thursday from 7-9

Our condolences. Rita was a strong kind and beautiful person. She always had a smile on her face which I will never forget. It was wonderful to see her this past summer and glad to have had one last hug from her.
