Phyllis Sorkin Besdin

Phyllis Sorkin Besdin, 90, passed away peacefully in Rochester, NY early Saturday morning.
Born in Washington, DC on September 10, 1933 to Sol and Ada Sorkin she was a resident of
Syracuse since 1950 when the family moved to Syracuse.

She was a graduate of Nottingham HS, and attended Syracuse University. Besides raising
her family she also worked at Empire Vision. Phyllis and Mel owned Camp Walden in Lake George and
spent countless summers running their camp. Phyllis was the director of the women’s waterfront.

She was a former member of Temple Concord, loved snow skiing, was an avid swimmer , and was a member
of several bridge groups. She was especially proud to have in the New York Marathon as an adult.

Her family includes her beloved husband Melvin of 70 years; their daughters Jill, Susan (Chip), and Jane (Gary);
8 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren; and her sister Lynne Miller. She was predeceased by her brother
Bobby Sorkin, her brother-in-law Larry Miller.

Funeral services will be at 1PM on Wednesday March 27 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service from noon to 1PM at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street.

Private burial will be in The Temple Concord section of Woodlawn Cemetery.

Contributions to perpetuate her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association

Mel and Jill, Susan and Janie, I loved your mother as if she was my ‘second’ mother. She was truly special. I know if my mom and dad were alive they would be sharing in sending their condolences. Love, Debby
